Ogden & Sullivan, P.A. is a civil trial practice firm in Tampa, Florida which represents clients in state and federal courts throughout Florida. The Firm was founded in 1990 by Randy Ogden and Tim Sullivan who had practiced together for nine years in the trial department of one of Tampa's oldest and most respected law firms. From the beginning, the Firm has limited its practice to counseling and representing clients involved in or considering litigation of civil matters.
The attorneys in the firm have extensive experience in the courtroom. Five of our lawyers are Board Certified by the Florida Bar as civil trial specialists. This distinction has been earned by less than 2% of all Florida lawyers. Six of our lawyers have been selected as members of The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a national organization dedicated to the preservation of the jury system. Membership in ABOTA requires significant jury trial experience.
While we are proud of our attorneys' accomplishments in the courtroom, we are mindful of the fact that a trial is not always in our clients' best interest. For that reason we are committed to and highly experienced in alternative forms of case resolution, including mediation and arbitration. Our clients' desire for swift and cost-effective resolution of their claims is our primary consideration in the planning and execution of the strategy for each case.
Ogden & Sullivan, P.A. is a member of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms.
Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyers
Certification is the highest level of recognition by The Florida Bar of the competency and experience of attorneys in the area of Civil Trial practice. The purpose of certification is to identify lawyers who practice civil trial law and have the special knowledge, skills, and proficiency, as well as the character, ethics, and reputation for professionalism, to be properly identified to the public as Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyers. Established in 1982 by the Florida Supreme Court, Board Certification provides consumers with assurance in the selection of legal counsel. Certified attorneys are the only lawyers allowed to identify or advertise themselves as "Florida Bar Board Certified" or as specialists. Less than 2% of Florida lawyers are Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyers.
To become Board Certified, a Civil Trial Lawyer must have practiced for at least five years and have been substantially involved in the area of civil trial law. Further, the lawyer must have conducted the requisite number of civil trials, including cases before a jury and as lead counsel. Each certified lawyer must also have passed peer review by attorneys and judges, have completed 50 hours of continuing legal education within the three years preceding the application, and passed a written examination demonstrating knowledge, skills and proficiency in the field of civil trial law.
Five of our lawyers have obtained the distinction of Board Certification.

Although Ogden & Sullivan is a trial firm, we are attuned to the merits of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation. Given the high cost of litigation today, early resolution of the case through one of these alternatives may better suit our clients' needs than a full blown trial. By understanding the processes by which these other forms of dispute resolution operate, we can tailor the most effective representation of our clients for the particular problem at hand, whether the forum be a trial, arbitration or mediation.
Every member of Ogden & Sullivan has a background which includes experience in arbitration and mediation, as well as trial practice. Our trial attorneys have mediated hundreds of cases to a successful conclusion thereby saving our clients significant time and resources, as well as the uncertainties associated with a jury verdict. In addition, our attorneys understand the subtle differences in presenting a case before an arbitration panel versus a jury venire. Depending on the complexity of the issues involved, a panel of experts may be more suited to resolve the case favorably to our client's position than a jury. In other cases, the theory of our client's case may be better received by the collective common sense of a lay jury than a technical panel. The experience in knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each system allows our firm to suggest a forum which will best suit the client's particular needs and maximize the potential for a successful outcome.
Four of our attorneys have received formal certification by the Florida Supreme Court as circuit court mediators, and are qualified to mediate all types of civil cases from commercial and construction disputes to medical malpractice and product liability claims.
