Tim Sullivan recently participated in a program entitled "Handling Catastrophic Motor Carrier Liability Cases-Changing Jury Perceptions" at the Winter meeting of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel on March 1 in Scottsdale, Arizona. On March 29 Tim presented a two hour program on Bad Faith experts along with San Francisco Attorney Tom Herlihy at the DRI Life, Health, Disability and ERISA Claims Seminar in Chicago. Included were discussions on whether the defense should hire a bad faith expert, vetting your expert, and pre-deposition discovery of the opposing expert. Following those discussions were four brief mock hearings involving direct and cross examinations of experts and then argument to a judge regarding exclusion of the expert's testimony. The final portion of the presentation involved sample direct and cross examinations of both a plaintiff and a defense expert. Attorney Snowden Stanley of Baltimore, Maryland served as judge. Playing the role of testifying experts were attorneys Mike Smith of Chicago, Leonor Lagomasino and Mark Greenberg of Miami, Anna Martin and Horace Green of San Francisco, and Bob Wright of Paramus, New Jersey.
